Washington Association of Child Advocate Programs

Thursday, February 27th, 2025
United Churches of Olympia
110 11th Ave SE, Olympia, WA
10:00 – 4:00 PM

We need your help to explain to the legislature why child advocates are a vital part of ensuring children’s best interests are heard in dependency!
Every year, the state association hosts Advocacy Day – a time to meet in Olympia and tell your policy and budget makers about what’s important to YOU!  There are a number of critical issues being discussed in Olympia these days as it relates to children and families in care, including:  the fentanyl crisis and response, funding for local programs and the state association, and critical needs of children and families in the dependency system.  As someone with first-hand field knowledge, many legislators will look to you for your opinion and perspective on these issues.

What will the day look like?

10:00 – noon — Meet at United Churches of Olympia for our morning program where we’ll cover current legislative topics and bills, provide materials for you to leave behind with your legislators, and discuss how to hold your meetings with your legislators.
Noon – 1:00 — A light lunch will be provided.
1:00 – 4:00— Individual appointments with your legislators.

How do I sign up!?!

1.  Take a peek and see if any other child advocates volunteers have already scheduled appointments with your legislators for the day.
2.  Next, register for the day to let us know you’ll be there.  If you’re not sure how to make your appointments with your legislators, let us know, and we’ll make them for you!
3. Drop an email to ryan@wachildadvocates.org to let us know when and with whom you’ve scheduled appointments if you decide to make your appointments at a later date.
4. Then, join us in the morning of February 27th at United Churches of Olympia for a morning program where we’ll discuss the current legislative environment and learn effective strategies on how and what to say your legislator.

Have any other questions?  Contact Ryan at the state office  – ryan@wachildadvocates.org – or talk to your local  program volunteer coordinator.
