Washington Association of Child Advocate Programs
AmeriCorps Program!
Helping to Uplift Voices
and Reunify Families.
About Us:
The Washington Association of Child Advocate Programs (WACAP) began the statewide AmeriCorps initiative to help increase the number of volunteer child advocates available for children in the dependency system. Volunteer advocates ensure that children spend the least amount of time in out-of-home care and see better outcomes including reunification with a parent or placement with a relative.
Our Members:
Our AmeriCorps cohort is made of individuals who want to make a difference in their community. Many join for that reason alone and others are interested in gaining professional development skills in volunteer recruitment/management, child welfare especially as it relates to the dependency system, and/or community engagement and outreach. Whatever their reason may be, our Members create a lasting impact in the communities they serve.
What We Do:
Recruit Volunteers
Make Connections
Raise Awareness
In this position, AmeriCorps members will gain experience in community outreach and engagement by recruiting volunteers to represent children in court as Volunteer Guardian Ad Litems (VGALs) or Child Advocate Volunteers. Members will build relationships with the volunteers they work with as well as the community around them as they learn about the world of child welfare and how to serve children when they need it most.
Members serve throughout Washington State for 11 months, either full-time (~40 hours/ week) or part-time (~20 hours/ week).
